Chapter President's Message

Emily Woodman-NanceCoaching in Action!
by Emily Woodman-Nance

Each year, I look forward to the Coaching School event.  I enjoy watching those that are curious about coaching. They have such intrigue in their faces.  I love the dialogue among the coaching school representatives and coaches.

This year’s Coaching School day event was what I expected plus more. It was a “live” enactment of ICF Core Competencies in action!   It reiterated the importance of such core competencies as: “coaching presence”, “direct communication”, “active listening” and “designing actions”.

It was an exhibition of diverse coaching styles that worked perfectly with each respective coach and client.  Just think, there was no formal matching.  It was simply organic matching that occurred 15 to 20 minutes prior to the beginning of the program.

The feedback from the event substantiated my views. Some of the feedback was as follows:

 “Excellent demos & techniques”
“Good variety of coaching styles”
“Understood the differences in coaching schools”

This year’s coaching school event epitomized coaching in action, exemplified the importance of ICF core competencies and jump started dialogue about ICF credentialing.

Frumi’s Book Review

Frumi BarrMojo by Marshall Goldsmith

Author’s Bio: Marshall Goldsmith is recognized as one of the world's leading executive educators and coaches. Dr. Goldsmith's 30 books include What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.

Author’s big thought: In his follow-up to the New York Times bestseller What Got You Here Won’t Get You There,  executive coach Marshall Goldsmith lays out the ways that we can get—and keep—our Mojo, Our professional and personal Mojo is impacted by four key factors: identity (Who do you think you are?), achievement (What have you done lately?), reputation (Who do other people think you are—and what have you done lately?), and acceptance (What can you change—and when do you need to just “let it go”?).

Mojo is: that positive spirit—toward what we are doing—now—that starts from the inside—and radiates to the outside. Mojo is at its peak when we are experiencing both happiness and meaning in what we are doing and communicating this experience to the world around us.

The Mojo toolkit provides fourteen practical tools to help you achieve both happiness and meaning—not only in business, but in life.

2011 Elections

2011 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

A CALL FOR NOMINEES

It is time once again to open the nominations for members of the Board of Directors for our ICF-OC Chapter.

We are allowed to have five elected members and two of those positions are already filled. Mike Brenhaug was elected last year to the position of President Elect and will be our Chapter President for 2011. Emily Woodman-Nance, our current President, will complete her three year term in 2011 as our Past President. This leaves only three open positions on the Board. They are President Elect (a three year term), Secretary and Treasurer.

This is a great opportunity to give back to your coaching community while at the same time getting to work with the senior coaches who are active in our chapter administration. To serve you must be a member of both the chapter and the National ICF (Tier 1 in our membership language). You do not need to be certified.  If you would like more information please contact any chapter officer.

Additional communications regarding chapter elections will be coming your way.

Congratulations
  • ICF-OC is delighted to welcome Tier 1 member Michele D. Jewett, Sandra Davidson and Lois Kahn-Feuer, Ph. D.
