Emily Woodman-NanceLiving from a Source of Abundance!
by Emily Woodman-Nance

Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into. ~ Wayne Dyer

Is the glass half full or half empty?

Having a positive attitude can make the world of difference and give new shape to your life.  Consider this statement, “The national unemployment rate is 10%”.  Now read this statement aloud, “90% of Americans are employed”.  The latter statement has a positive underlining meaning that virtually everyone in the United States is employed. This type of perspective can boost your morale and give you the “go get’ em” kind of attitude.  For coaches, it means that there are a large pool of potential clients that can take advantage of your services and products.

Pittsburgh and Finland’s University of Helsinki have shown that high blood pressure is linked to having a pessimistic attitude. A pessimistic attitude, stress, anxiety, and anger will also damage your body, shorten your life span, and negatively affect your immune system and other vital organs. Psychology Today suggests that “maintaining a positive outlook during distressing times can optimize not only your emotional wellbeing, but also your cardiovascular health.”

When you find yourself with negative thoughts, replace them with positive ones.  Begin looking at the positive side of every situation.  Concentrate on the resources you have.  When faced with adversity, look at it as an opportunity to learn and grow. A positive attitude can open doors that would have otherwise remained shut!

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. ~ Abraham Lincoln

May you live from a source of abundance!

With warm regards,
Emily Woodman-Nance

Frumi’s Book Review

Frumi BarrGetting Naked by Pat Lencioni

Author’s big thought: For those who provide service to clients, vulnerability is particularly powerful. Those who get comfortable being vulnerable—or as Lencioni calls it, naked—are rewarded with levels of client loyalty and intimacy that other service providers can only dream of.

Ready for ICF Credentials?

Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to get your ICF credential?  Is it pretty confronting to try to figure out what they are looking for?  Have you taken an accredited program but it’s been too long ago to remember where they will be looking specifically in the realm of the Core Competencies? Have you been noticing more and more that conversations seem to be about having a coaching credential? Is it time for you to move forward to gain yours?

This program focuses on what the ICF Credentialing Committee will be listening for when they listen to your recorded coaching conversations or your oral examinations. Come be mentored by a practiced MCC Mentor Coach on where the committee will be listening in your coaching. Or come to the program to gain your hours by a mentor coach for your ACC renewal.

The Monthly "Core Competency Review Program" will prepare you at the ICF PCC minimum understanding of the ICF Core Competencies. This program is a preparatory program only and will not guarantee you an ICF credential (ACC, PCC or MCC).

Calling Nominees

It is time once again to open the nominations for members of the Board of Directors for our ICF-OC Chapter. We are allowed to have five elected members and two of those positions are already filled.

Mike Brenhaug was elected last year to the position of President Elect and will be our Chapter President for 2011. Emily Woodman-Nance, our current president, will complete her three year term in 2011 serving as our Past President.

This leaves only three open positions on the Board. They are

  • Treasurer

This is a great opportunity to give back to your coaching community while at the same time getting to work with the senior coaches who are active in our chapter administration.

To serve you must be a member of both the chapter and the National ICF (Tier 1 in our membership language).  You must be actively coaching paying clients or actively coaching in an internal coach position. President-Elect must be in the process or having completed training as an ICF Coach.

The Keys to Successful Group Coaching

Group coaching is a great way to leverage your time, reach more clients, and offer cost effective solutions to those on a budget.  But putting together a group program comes with unique challenges.  For example, how do you coach several people at once while keeping the sessions safe, productive, and valuable for everyone?  And how do you find enough clients who want to start coaching at the same time, so that you can fill a group?

On Thursday, October 14th we will be dedicating our program to answering these questions and more, with a panel of established coaches who have years of experience coaching groups in a variety of formats.   Just some of the questions we will be addressing are:

  • What are the different types of group coaching programs and formats?
  • What are the distinctions between group coaching, team coaching, masterminding, and teaching or facilitating a content-based program?
  • What are different ways to structure the group coaching experience?
  • What ground rules should you establish in a group?
  • What are some tips for managing tricky group dynamics?
  • How do you fill a group?

And, as a program participant, you are welcome to e-mail your own questions in advance to nahid@aspyrre.com. Get your most pressing questions on our list and make sure you get exactly what you need to get your next group going!
