Chapter President's Message |

First Things First
Stephen Covey said it so poignantly in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People “What are first things? First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth”. I believe with the world’s current economic condition, this is a great opportunity for people to reassess what is truly important to them in the big scheme of things. I also think it is essential for each of us to take care of ourselves. In the words of Eda LeShan, “When we truly care for ourselves, it becomes possible to care far more profoundly about other people. The more alert and sensitive we are to our own needs, the more loving and generous we can be toward others.” I know for coaches and caregivers in general this way of living may be somewhat difficult to make a common practice. What is it worth to you and those you care about?
For several years, my mission has been the formation and execution of a plan to live my life rooted in the fundamental elements that I treasure the most. In it’s simplest terms I treasure “relationships”. Relationships provide the exchange of engagement and intimacy that bring fulfillment in all aspects of my life. It lends a common connection between me and another person. I thrive to develop deep and lasting relationships. Studies show that people with healthy relationships really do have more happiness and less stress. February ICF-OC speakers Rachel Pradhan and Lee Pound demonstrated how we could establish and build relationships using various social mediums. Reflecting back on last month’s International Coaching Week event the common feedback was that the event was “engaging” and “intimate”. I want to thank Mike Brenhaug and all the volunteers for making ICW 2010 a special and memorable day for the participants. So many of them were able to connect one-on-one with a coach and truly embrace the power of coaching!
I have a challenge for each of you:
- Reflect on what is most important to you and devise a plan of action
Do you want to give your clients, loved ones, friends, colleagues the most optimal you? Then, first things first, address your fundamentals desires and take care of yourself! Possibilities await you.
Warm regards,
Emily Woodman-Nance

Business & Coaching Excellence
The Art of Sales with Randy Tabor
Whether it is networking, marketing, discussing price or even the dreaded cold calling, the majority of us are familiar with the basics of selling. As consumers, we are regularly exposed to countless sales techniques and styles. In addition, who doesn’t have at least one of the thousands of available books on how to sell? So with all the information out there and our first hand experience, why does the thought of sales still create so much anxiety?
In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to add more clients, keep clients longer, and ways to make the “price” conversation easier. We will also discuss the skills required to be successful in sales- which, as coaches, you already possess the two most critical. In the end, you will leave feeling more comfortable and confident about selling.
