Revelation
by Emily Woodman-Nance
Does anyone ever know when a revelation will take place? I noticed that it tends to come in the oddest situations.
During a conversation at the July ICF-OC meeting, I had an epiphany. Some may think that this would be an opportune place for an AHA moment to occur! Keep in mind, the July event was not the regular learning format it was a summer celebration geared towards business-related table topic discussions, good food, music and games.
I had a revelation during a conversation about personal relationships and simplicity. It dawned on me that my work-life has remained unchanged even though my personal life has dramatically changed. Why is this? How is this impacting the people that mean the most to me?
For the past few weeks, I have been thinking about my life.Reflecting on the common questions people ask me, “Do you ever sleep?”, “Do you ever relax” or “What are you in charge of now?” None of the questions are ever geared towards personal interaction.
I dug deeper and had conversations with my loved ones. I soon discovered that they desired more personal time with me. I decided to make a shift. My husband and I have joined forces to coach our 11-year old son’s soccer team. It has brought the family closer together and I am not in charge.
I have a new mantra, “Family First”. The biggest challenge is not working on the weekend. I am a passionate person that can easily work seven days a week. I will continue to fine tune.
I now see how revelations can occur when you least expect them. How do you react when a revelation occurs? Do you ponder, move on or what?
Let the revelations continue!
With warm regards,
