Two Extraordinary Summer Events

Thursday, July 10th: We are transforming our monthly meeting into a musical experience and Bar-B-Q, in a unique outdoor venue. If you love music, you'll be fascinated at our speaker's revolutionary business model that uses music as a tool to increase performance and productivity in organizations. Mark Romero has received the highest accolades from everyone who has seen him, including seasoned business leaders. It's going to be an extraordinary evening on a warm summer night, outside, filled with music, a vibrant group of coaches, and an intriguing new model for business and personal success!

Thursday, August 14th: Join us for our annual Accredited Coach Training Program showcase, where six of the top ICF-accredited training programs will not only share information about their programs, but they will also demonstrate coaching at the PCC and MCC level, to help you get a true sense of how powerful good coaching can be. Nowhere else can you witness as many different masters of coaching showcase their skills. Glenn Stevenson, Ph.D.ASSESSMENT 101
by Glenn Stevenson

This month we will review an assessment that guides coaches and their clients in career choice.  This assessment is the MAPP.  I know of one coach who said she likes what the MAPP shows about her clients enough that she uses it for all of her clients, whether they are looking for a new career or not.

This is the ninth in the Insights series on assessments.  For an index of assessments already reviewed and a list of assessments yet to be described, see the end of this article.

Assessment:  MAPP (Motivation Appraisal of Personal Potential)

Description:  The MAPP is an online career assessment that coaches use to help their clients reach their greatest career and personal potential, based on their motivations. The MAPP Assessment provides insight into how the individual's own traits can be used to guide them into vocations and careers that best fit their own motivational profile.

The MAPP consists of 71 questions.  In each, the client picks a most preferred, a least preferred, and a middle-preferred choice from among three phrases.  Most of the phrases describe work situations.  For example, one choice is:

  • Be primarily involved with people in your work
  • Be primarily involved with ideas in your work
  • Be primarily involved with procedure in your work

After the client answers the questions, the on-line system generates a narrative interpretation that includes the person’s interest in job content (tasks the person wants to perform), temperament for the job (how the person prefers to perform tasks), attitude for the job, and how the person relates to people, things, data, reasoning, applied math, and language.

What do you enjoy most about building websites for coaches?

I have three favorites:

1. Helping the coach discover the concept for their website: creating rough sketches, brainstorming – I thrive on this kind of creative experience. Coaches tend to think very creatively and they love to take part in this process, which is very helpful in the design process.

2. “Going Live”: after a lot of hard work, it’s great to see the final website go live for the public to see and the client to use to promote their business and get more clients!

3. And last, but certainly not the least, every single day I am inspired by the fundamental principles of coaching. I love the fact that my clients are working to bring about positive change in our world. This is very humbling to me.

What's the major strategy you did use, now plan to use, to obtain clients?

I worked hard for the first 6 months on promoting our website, www.IndraMarketing.com: through forums, blogs, networking – and its really paid-off. We now receive a steady stream of prospects through the website – and our free classes on Internet Marketing not only support our current and past clients, but our future ones to.

Who is your ideal client?

I love working with coaches that are decisive and are ready to make an investment in the bigger vision of their business. Life, Business and Executive Coaches that are ready to take action on their aspiration – that’s the client for me!

Describe a rewarding experience you've had in your web design business.

Deborah Todd was just getting started as a life coach when she contacted us. She was very active in the design process, and was eager to see the website launch. In February, we launched her website and her website has really taken her life coaching business to the next level. Within the 3 months of launching she started adding her events online, her eNewsletter subscription grown 20%, and she has a 45% open rate on her eNewsletters. It’s great to see when a coach really blooms because of their website!
