4th Annual Accredited Coach Training Program

Meeting AttendeesCome to see LIVE Coaching Demonstrations and/or participate by being coached!

One of the highest requests from our chapter members is to see live coaching demonstrations.  Our meeting in August provides the opportunity to see multiple coaching approaches and techniques.  We have assembled a panel of representatives from six International Coach Federation accredited schools to provide not only background information on their respective programs, but also live coaching demonstrations of their unique approach.

This event is open to members of the current and prospective coaching community, including:

  • Prospective coaches who want professional coach training
  • Current non-accredited coaches who want to become accredited
  • Current ICF-accredited coaches who want to pursue continuing education
  • Professionals in human resources, training, and other fields who want to learn more about coach training

Representatives from several ICF-accredited coach training programs (see below) will give live demonstrations of their unique coaching style with audience participants. Don't miss this event!

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO BE COACHED! If you want to see masterful coaches in action, you won't want to miss this August 14th event!  If you would like to volunteer to be 'the client', be sure to contact Rita Conley at rtraveler@ca.rr.com by July 31, 2008.

Get Your Website Found:
9 SEO Techniques You Can Do Yourself!

by Rachel Pradhan
www.IndraMarketing.com

I get asked about Search Engine Optimization almost everyday by my clients. And for good reason – if the major search engines like Google and Yahoo aren’t finding you – then neither are your prospects! With 60-70% of the population using the Internet to research and discover answers to what they are looking for, and then 80% of them using Search Engines to find it – you have to know how your website can be optimized. The following are 9 techniques that you can do without hiring a Search Engine Optimization professional to increase your exposure of your website:

1. Social Networking: www.LinkedIn.com , www.Facebook.com , http://www.ning.com/ , http://www.naymz.com/ all have great page rankings, which means that when you have your website address on these sites they are creating an Inbound Link. Trust me, social networking is a constructive use of your time when used wisely! (For more information on Search Engine Optimization in relation to Social Networking, please listen to the Podcast: “LinkedIn: Social Networking for Life and Business Coaches”)

2. Submitting Articles: www.prnewswire.com, www.Gather.com and www.Zaadz.com are all websites that coaches should use to submit articles about their niche or target market. Remember to use keywords, but don’t over-do it, and have a link to your website. You may not receive clients directly from writing articles, but the links you add to these articles (which are rich in keywords that your prospects would search for) will never go away. The relation between popular websites with a lot of content, such as the above examples, and you is good – it’s like being at the ‘cool kids table’ in High School: importance by association.

3. Write Comments in Blogs: add your link at the bottom of your comment on blogs that relate to your niche or coaching. But, don’t SPAM blogs; otherwise your comments won’t be approved. Instead, read blogs that relate to your niche or target market that you genuinely find interesting – as well as the public. So, yes you are looking for blogs that are popular. For instance, if you coach entrepreneurs, then escapefromcubiclenation.com would be a great blog to read and post comments on. Where do you find blogs that relate to your industry? With over 112 million blogs, www.technorati.com is the largest directory of blogs in the world. Type-in keywords that your prospects would use to find you in Technorati’s “Search” function to view blogs that relate to you. To know their popularity, you simply find blogs that have high “Authority” ratings.

Glenn Stevenson, Ph.D.ASSESSMENT 101
by Glenn Stevenson

This month we enter the world of 360s.  These assessments are done in executive coaching.  The term 360 refers to the 360 degrees in a circle, and a 360 assessment gathers feedback on an executive’s performance from his or her supervisors, colleagues, and subordinates. They may also seek input from the employee him- or herself and/or customers.

There are dozens if not hundreds of 360s available, as a Google search on “360 assessment” reveals.  At the time of writing, 77 sponsored links emerge from this Google search alone!

360s can be difficult for a coach to debrief because an executive may hone in on the question, “What did people say bad about me?”  The skill of a coach in handling the emotional reaction of the person is essential.  Also, some companies use their own 360s, so in this case being certified in a particular 360 may have less value.

The 360 assessment I reviewed for this article is the OSI Polaris 360.  This assessment comes from a relatively small company in San Diego, but a couple of local coaches use it with confidence.

This is the tenth in the Insights series on assessments.  For an index of assessments already reviewed and a list of assessments yet to be described, see the end of this article.

Assessment:  OSI Polaris 360

Description:  The OSI Polaris 360 consists of 88 questions and takes about 30 minutes to complete.  It identifies 41-42 leadership and management skills.  It can be applied to CEOs down to the manager level. The questions are submitted to the subject’s supervisor, peers, and direct reports.  A minimum of 3 peers and 3 direct reports are required, because their answers are combined.

Upon survey completion, participants and/or his/her managers receive detailed, individualized reports that include graphs and written comments.  This information is used to develop individualized action plans for selection, development, or appraisal purposes.

1. How did you get started as a life coach?

I my past life, have been a psychologist for twenty years in 8 different countries.  About 10 years ago, I decided that I want to assist my clients and partner with them to design their future rather than getting over their past.  After doing a lot of research, I decided to be a life coach. As a life coach, I truly recognize the brilliance of each of my clients and their personal power to discover their own solutions when provided with support.

2. Do you have a specialty area?

Because of my background as a  psychologist, I work with my clients from inside out to remove the limitations that is getting on their way to be successful.

3. Is there something in your life that inspired you to become a coach?

It was an exercise in a workshop I attended some time ago. In that workshop they ask participants to go back all the way in their lives and see at what moment in their lives, if they had a mentor, trusted advisor, an objective observer, how their lives would be different. That moment was the turning point for me. I decided to be that person to help and assist others to find their path.

4. How do you know that you have "arrived" as a coach

For me it has been going through credentialing. This experience truly has taken me to the next level. I

feel that I have "arrived" as a coach. I encourage the new coaches to consider becoming a certified coach.

It is a unique experience!
