April 8th BCE: Coaching Challenges with Master Coaches Carly Anderson, MCC and Michael Stratford, MCC Posted by Rachel Pradhan on Sunday, March 21, 2010

Have you ever run into a challenging coaching situation and silently asked yourself, “What do I do now?”
This is one of the most common problems both new and experienced coaches face, say Master Coaches Michael Stratford and Carly Anderson, and leads to one of the most common questions they hear, “What do I do when…?”.
To give you tools to handle these situations, Michael and Carly will lead a provocative interactive session focusing on this common question. They will demonstrate that, regardless of the focus, there are always three aspects to the answer:
- Where am I approaching the question from?
- What is the question really about?
- What is the ideal action or speaking that answers the question?
The critical distinction, according to Michael and Carly, is Preparation vs. Planning. Properly prepared coaches can improvise and respond in the moment. Michael and Carly will use Coaching Challenge questions presented by the participants to address these three aspects along with others such as:
- How to Manage Client Expectations
- How to end the relationship
- How to get the clients to understand what coaching is/is not
You will leave this session with a clear understanding of how to use these three questions as a framework to approach any “What do I do when?” question you may encounter. You can then effectively improvise and respond instead of creating artificial, pre-emptive cookie cutter answers to anticipate questions.
